It's not psycho or evil, it's just math you fucking troglodytes. I understand it might not be applicaple to your games where you're poorly shuffling and your group lets you mulligan six times, but 41-43 is the correct number for battlecruiser decks.
Duel commander lists typically run 38-41 lands not counting outliers like Rog or Azusa, these are highly interactive, low to the ground, legacy style decks packed with cheap interaction and often running cantrips. These are decks that can happily keep a 2 land opener and win games without ever hitting a third. This is also a 1v1 format where the risk of flood and screw need to be weighed against each other equally. If this describes your list then 38 lands is the correct number to be running.
If your commander costs 5+ mana, your average CMC is 3+, and you're playing casual games that go past turn 8, you should be running 43. And that's just assuming you weigh flood/screw equally, the reality is that flood is hardly a thing in casual commander where you're able to recast your value generating commander and your deck has a bunch of 5+ cmc cards. And even still, the player that "floods" can still potentially cast a topdeck Tooth and Nail or an Expropriate or something and come back from it, but missing your third or fourth land often means you're just out of the running for what might be an hour+ long game.
I don't even understand the aversion to running at least 40 when there are so many insane utility lands these days. MDFCs, Channel Lands, Landcyclers, Talon Gates, Urza's Saga, Horizon of Progress, Field of the Dead, Expedition map, and a whole bunch of nuts color specific ones. There are people who will tell you with a straight face they can't run Lorien Revealed over some shitty card in their deck because they'll "flood out bro,"
