I think it's because it used to be on a lot of top 10/3x3 threads and Zoomers who went into the game with negative view of it ended up nitpicking it instead of actually enjoying the game.

Sure, it's a little dated, but for a 3 decade old game it still holds up incredibly well. It's every bit the equal of Super Metroid, A Link to the Past, and DKC.
