The show fully bought into 3rd wave feminism and made the mistake of thinking it's the way real people feel, not realizing it's just a few very loud Twitter femcels who write wattpad fanfiction about lesbian situationships. That's why the writers expected you to approve of Alicent's turn in S02E08, they assumed you root for the feminist girlboss faction so naturally you should be happy that Alicent signed the death warrant of her entire family to join them. It probably took until the audience reception to S2 for the writers to realize they inadvertedly make all the worst stereotypes about why women are untrusthy during wartime completely true.

That was the fandom consensus after S1 for sure but it has definitely shifted. I've talked to a lot of fans on twitter, reddit, tumblr, tiktok and so on and the consensus is that Rhaenyra was let down by the writing like most characters, while the Greens primarily Aegon were the much more interesting side.
