consider the following:
>the underlying substrate of reality and all phenomena is not a thing (consciousness, energy, light, god, etc). because what then _is_ consciousness? what is god?
>the underlying substrate is relationship, space between, interaction, patterns - more of a "how" than a "what".
>a pattern which unfolds from apparent simplicity into all things. think about the equation which produces the infinite variances of the mandelbrot set
>a pattern which becomes so complex it dreams itself into being
>gives rise to the phenomenal world (void -> light creation myth) and in time begins to recognize itself (consciousness)
>like a mathematician so focused on the equations he's thinking about that they seem more real than the room around him
>there is no goal, no purpose, no point - all is divine play, lila
>the question is not "why?" but rather "why not?"
so then maybe:
>magick is a piece of the pattern (>>you) recognizing the illusion for what it is
>realizing that you are a piece of the grand pattern twisting back to look at itself; a strange loop
>this realization brings one into harmony with the pattern, "deeper" or "backwards" a level in recursion
>all is play, all is illusory, so the magician bends himself how he sees fit - the spoon does not bend, it is you
>deep conviction, faith, and identification with these facts grant agency over local pattern-space
>the bend (the magician's consciousness) begins exerting a "gravitational pull", altering other parts of the pattern, subtly at first
