I just think Darkness was vague generic evil in Destiny for so long that it was pretty clearly the intent at the start. When they actually had to figure out what it is, the probably though Darkness=evil is cliche, and some of that probably comes from not wanting to be racist.

It's almost like right wingers have unrealistic standards for women
It's almost like she fits most of those standards after tens of thousands of dollars or surgery
It's almost like.. Fitting cis men's idea of a woman makes them have more respect for you
