hard to tell what you are getting wrong unless you post your anime faces
usually its a problem with the face proportions
and how it's anime is more of an advanced 2d symbol rather than a normal 3d form
you should be able to get the 'anime feel' with just simple circles, dots and lines. put the features on separate layers and play around with the ratios until it looks right.
