I'm not even a big CITH fan, but part of what made the original book so cool was how you didn't know shit about the cat. There was no backstory or world tied to him, He was just some random creature that let sad kids have some fun, while also learning when too much fun was too much. That's it. Putting him in a imaginary creature world where he's trying to prove himself or some gay shit like that doesn't work for this character at all. They turned him from mischievous yet kind hearted entity into flint lockwood
