I also noticed this moment, I think he fell asleep in Ashley's bed and the puzzle represents his first time with Julia. This dream, apparently, resulted in him making a sad face or something (probably because he could smell Ashley in his sleep) and then she woke him up. Headcanon: he regretted losing his virginity.
