You have to realise that a good portion of users on this site grew up here, have been using it since they're 12 years old. instead of being socialised IRL they learned the rules of social interaction and their worldview on 4chan. And contrarianism is THE main pradigm. Be against the current thing. If many people like/support something, it HAS to be bad.
That is - and I am not exaggerating here - the only metric these kids judge things by. If something has such unanimous support as SKG, then it triggers some kind of primal response in the 4chan zoomer. He is subconciously forced to oppose it very hard, even if that means spamming gay and child porn for a few hours.
