A confrontation with China risks nuclear war which no matter how slight there is a 0% we would do so just for Taiwan.

Again a false premise, nobody is doing anything "over Taiwan", least of all the United States. We'll do "jack" and "shit" for Taiwan, as will the rest of the region and world for that matter.
We will, however, do everything to shut the CCP out of the first and second island chains. As will most regional players along side us and aligned to that goal.
Every time, 100% of the time, from now until the end of those states and our own. The CCP will never be permitted as the power of the Pacific. Taiwan is the tripwire to a regional conflict and a signal that the fight has started. Nothing more, and nothing less.
