what these people are proposing is insane. i wouldn't want to try starting a new game company under the laws they want.

companies have no obligation to support a product. the law should make unsupported products public domain (note, this does not necessarily include source code). that way, companies can protect their interests and not be legally bound to past endeavors they no longer want to pursue, and consumers can take apart what they have bought and analyze it to their hearts content to understand, document, and make modifications to _their_ hardware/software.
