you could just have two quick popups of Attack ^ Def ^ on the user with no additional text at all. At that point all you need is some signaling to quickly distinguish effects. Color coding, icons, sounds, that shit's basically there already, it just needs to be expedited and gamefreak fucking REFUSES to make that leap.
