It's because mages have gotten a decent nerf-bat and Blizz just buffed the shit out of the other dps in S-tier. Thing is though, if you look at the comp's you'd make, mage is always going to be brought for serious M++ groups. Rdruid, Vdh, Spriest, Ele and what else are you going to bring besides mage? At least assuming that comp does enough single-target.
