My autism wanted the extender to be 1 block wide to stick to that redstone-on-the-stone design, then I tried the redstone under a block extender (pic) and that's when I ran into the water washing away the dust issue, that's why I put the stone between the redstone and the trapdoors and that's why the repeaters are where they are.

Now I got a 6-wide block mess but I covered everything under trapdoors and cobblestone and it looks prettier so I guess I'll stick to it.
