1975 - Riot - Warrior (Demo)
Riot released Warrior on their debut album in 1977, but this extremely rare demo from 1975 of what is probably the first power metal song is an interesting look at the nascent genre.

1978 - Lazer - Demon's Daughter
At this point, we're at actual metal. There was a small but hardcore heavy rock scene in Texas that seemed to be several years ahead of the curve; this is one of the craziest examples. Check out bands like Axxe, Ultra, Overload.

1978 - Angel Witch - Baphomet (Demo)
A demo of Angel Witch's Baphomet, which appears on their 1980 self-titled debut. I have to imagine this was the heaviest music recorded in the 70s. Unfathomably heavy for the era, and it owes a lot to Black Sabbath.

1979 - Squadran - The Wall
A band from New York that was just a little too ahead of their time and failed to launch. Could definitely be characterized as speed metal.
Let me know if you're interested in more weird, interesting heavy rock and early metal. I've got a lot.
