Lanzhu questioned the point of making an idol club where everyone was a solo idol and even competed with each other. The club members then formed into groups in order to respond to that. These groups were meant as some kind of experiment, but in the process they found the true purpose of the club, that is to support each other. Their new connections also made them stronger both individually and collectively. Lanzhu, in turn, realized how cringe and pathetic she was. Just because they competed with each other doesn't mean they had to stand alone and not help each other. The things she wanted the most was there in the club, but she almost rejected it. The other characters then befriended her, also with the help of her two friends Shioriko and Mia. There's also the role of Yuu as the main character.

IIRC they were supposed to compete in Love Live, but then in the movie sequel they went back to competing with each other. Maybe I remember wrong and it was only R3BIRTH who wanted to be in Love Live.
