/mu/ has always been puzzling for me. I consider myself quite interested in music, maybe even passionate about it. Yet, every time I go to /mu/ I struggle to find anyone to share my interests. Even if we assume that vocaloid is sort of acquired taste, it surely takes some liking of japanese culture and music to appreciate for sure. But even if I just want to talk about some more niche electronic music, especially more experimental electronica or uniqueness of japanese hardcore techno, no one cares or they out right attack it for really weird reasons.
>oh, it's shit because frequent changes of timbre are cheap trick etc
like how is this a problem in a composition that purposefully tries to blend and expose so many different genres and themes. It's like they are stuck in one concrete style of music with specific techniques and everything that deviates from it or even just deviates from some well established genres is automatically bad. Ironically, they do like very early experimental electronic music, which of course sounds really bad since it was really early work before sound design was a thing(but it "has soul" I guess?)
Idk, maybe there is some incredible hidden beauty and musical mastery in american rock from few decades ago that 70% of this board continues to discuss endlessly. But any attempt to portrait yourself as an arbiter of music quality and genres limitations is rendered moot once you realize the remaining 30% is just k-pop. These people seem really close minded for a hobbyist 4chan board. I was expecting more diversity of taste and weird niche interests.
