I find the pivot to survival crafting really weird. The game is at its best when things are tense and you are moving from place to place, finding gear, food and goodies to keep you going and to give you a sense of accomplishment. Clearing out an area, unrolling your sleeping bag in a bathroom, wondering if you are going to be safe through the night as winter rolls in is an amazing feeling.
The settled, agrarian/hoarder gameplay honestly works better with friends in your world as you can divvy up tasks and specialize, reducing the tedium by a significant amount. There wasn't really a need to change any of it.
As is currently it seems that the devs are looking to shit on the player base by artificially making the game more difficult and add extensive, tedious tasks with the new crafting system.
