Christian here. There is a clearly heretical zionist cult that has risen up mostly in American Christianity, since about the mid-1800's. It goes against the beliefs and doctrine of all Christians for the nearly two thousand years prior, and worse, it confuses the modern nation-state of "Israel" with the Biblical Israel. No reasonable person grounded in faith and history could confuse the two, but there are lots of unreasonable, idiotic people, and many more nominal Christians who have no grounding whatsoever in faith and history.
Israel (the modern nation-state) is not Israel (the people of God). Those who denied, and continue to deny, Christ were cut away from that people as the gentiles who professed faith were grafted in. The Church is Israel, those who continue to deny Christ are damned, even the semites who deny him. Paul (a jew and a Christian) is very clear on this.

"But if some of the branches were broken off, and you, although a wild olive shoot, were grafted in among the others and now share in the nourishing root[b] of the olive tree, do not be arrogant toward the branches. If you are, remember it is not you who support the root, but the root that supports you. Then you will say, “Branches were broken off so that I might be grafted in.” That is true. Calling their nation "israel" is like calling a bill that authorizes unconstitutional spying on citizens "the patriot act." It only fools people who are so dumb that a name is all they need to define a thing.
