Yeah I mean it comes down to what you want out of the game. If you have no use for gold than yah, no point in doing tasks. But the tasks are designed so that you get money by doing the things that are already in the game. If you want to focus on crafting, find the traveler's tasks that give you money for the items produced from your crafting. If you like fighting monsters, there's the slayer tasks. If you absolutely don't want to do tasks, then the only way to make gold is by selling your wares on the market. Only other way that I know of that they plan on adding to introduce more gold into the economy is settlements passive income from people living in them.
