On July 4 at the Residencial Manuel Zeno Gandía in Arecibo, 21-year-old Whisler Jared Rancel Galarza allegedly assaulted the daughter of 60‑year‑old Miguel Ángel González Varela, causing serious injuries and sending her to the hospital.

The next day, González Varela returned to the residence and fatally shot Galarza. He then turned himself in to police and surrendered the weapon.
