Does RDR really push the revenge bad narrative though?
John's story in 1 isn't about revenge, he's forced into hunting down his old friends by the government and gets gunned down because he's a wanted ex-outlaw. Jack gets revenge but you never see him actually get punished for it other than knowing it's not the life that his parents wanted for him.

RDR 2 isn't really a revenge story either. It's in the name, it's about redemption. John gets revenge on Micah at the end but again there's no actual repercussions for him gunning some other outlaw down on top of a mountain. His eventual fate is down to all of the murdering and robbing he's already comitted beforehand.
