I started by collecting CDs. Just going to any Thrift Shop, Record store, Half Price Books, etc. and picking out stuff I saw on RYM or have heard is a classic, and 2-3 CDs that had a cool album cover. There's artists I know and love solely because I took a chance on them like Liars. Don't forget to read up on your favorite artists' inspirations and on pivotal releases in certain genres/movements. Like I know Mark Hollis' favorite band was CAN, I love Laughing Stock, maybe I should go check out Tago Mago.
