I don't update you guys much, but consoomerzo here with changelog before mid-year sales.
As far as recs, notable additions are Juzear Defiant, Kiwi Ears Astral, and Mangird Top Pro.
Added a bit more to CIEM section for some sense of direction / next step.
Overhauled filter section to cover general ownership / maintenance advice.
To-do:
Adopt similar convention as current OP baker for IEMs and DACs with EQ function.
Add brief sound descriptor section.
Include JM-1 as a sound descriptor and eschew use of the word neutral. This has been on my mind for a while and may take some time as I parse it out for each IEM.
Let me know any thoughts.

red has always been divisive for me to include, mainly because of the fit. truthear increasing prices does not help.
i have no hardline stance, but it's tough to ever be considered a safe recommendation when the fit can pose substantial issues for some people and the sound is not extraordinary.

>>105556558It goes back to what type of adjustment is best suited for a base DFHRTF.
All of the ones we have are analogous to how a room will tilt the anechoic FR of a speaker.
There are subtle differences between all of them, but it's really just small tweaks at this point. My personal opinion is that this is optimization that isn't all that useful for the end user except for EQ (as Listener says, it's probably easier to add one shelf compared to tilting the whole FR), and is mostly being examined in a theoretical framework.
>>105556577the only actual useful stuff i include are measurements, impressions, and new release posts (please start redoing them whoever posted them)

>>105556558>>105556660isn't additional bass boost coming from you hearing bass from both speakers? Which boosts it a bit more?
>>105556611Can somebody bite the bullet with this one?
>>105556711Perhaps, the literature on perceptual loudness differences between speakers and headphone-like transducers spans almost a century, with a lot of support but also contradictions depending on the methodology used.
We also know that the preferred steady state response of loudspeakers on average requires a bit of bass boost, so it is hard to isolate what is causing what, especially when considering the rather high variance in bass preference for IEMs.
wtf some random guy on the net just made up jm-1 and all the graphluencers decided to go along with it?
>>105556939Bit of an oversimplification but yes, one person (with the help of many at HP.com) decided to recreate something similar to ISO 11904 but for the B&K 5128 measurement rig.
>>105556558When he says he'd equalize IEMs to JM-1 DF does he mean raw DF or the usual -1 dB/octave tilted one?
Also for comparison to ERDI/SPDI he adds +4 and +8 dB shelfs but for himself he's doing -5?
I don't get it so what's his recipe here?
>>105556939People went along with it because he had a very good argument for "making up" jm-1. If you'd understand what JM-1 is you'd have no problems with it whatsoever.
>>105556967He means raw DF, and then applying a shelf that mimics the ERDI/SPDI shelf, which is what is responsible for the downward slope for in-room loudspeakers.
As he mentions below, you can use any value for the negative shelf, he uses -5 dB which approximates the 0.8-1.0 dB tilt. This will vary depending on your preference and experience with loudspeakers.

>>105560079>What other IEMs have a similar relaxing and forgiving sound signature?Few. T1S is pretty unique with the tuning and end result. Some stuff like old BL-03 and QoA Gimlet graph similar, but there aren't good reasons to spend money on them when T1S sounds as good, for cheaper, and in a more ergonomic shell.
Tuning with bigger bass and treble that rolls off "naturally," are uncommon traits.
It's quite a different tuning approach overall, but bass-boosted JM-1 / "meta," tuned IEMs meet the criteria of relaxing / forgiving, so long as they aren't majorly boosted in the upper treble.
I can't keep up with the amount of ZiiGaat and Kiwi Ears releases, but they're putting out every driver config / price and slight tilted "meta," they can. It's likely you can find an appealing sound among their abundance of newer models. Order from Amazon if you can for easier returns.
Also as a general sentiment, enjoy what you have, and be cognizant of chasing imaginary "gear upgrades." Some small free EQ tweaks and the T1S can sound even better.

How did (You) start building a collection of local music? It seems really daunting to start, even more so since I listen to pretty much everything, but I want to break free from Spotify/streaming shit
>>105567212I trust in KZ Acoustics Laboratory
All their graphs end up being very similar

Makes sense, thanks Anon
>>105567221that's easy. soulseek and torrents
>>105567363I'm not asking about the mechanics of it, I can find the music myself more or less. I'm asking more about how to decide where to start, when to add more albums, etc.
>>105567378the only way you'll get far with your local library is by needing it
it is very hard to get away from streaming services because of the convenience and qol of it all.
local is ideal for transcoding for other mobile devices, getting unavailable music, hosting your own radios/servers, and having the ability to customize the player, files, etc.
i'd say start using a music player. a big improvement for me was having the ability to create global shortcuts to stop my music wherever on my pc
How do you feel about live albums?
>>105567378so you need your hand held. ok.
check out other artists that share the same label as some of your favorites. check out entire discographies of your favorite artists, etc..
>>105567378add albums you listened to and liked, and albums that you will be listening to and like
not that hard. if you have storage issues, then choose albums that you like a lot.

which pos for me?
>>105567526q1 pro for amateur

>>105567221I started by collecting CDs. Just going to any Thrift Shop, Record store, Half Price Books, etc. and picking out stuff I saw on RYM or have heard is a classic, and 2-3 CDs that had a cool album cover. There's artists I know and love solely because I took a chance on them like Liars. Don't forget to read up on your favorite artists' inspirations and on pivotal releases in certain genres/movements. Like I know Mark Hollis' favorite band was CAN, I love Laughing Stock, maybe I should go check out Tago Mago.

>>105567579>>105567565Tbh I already think I got my answer; look for discographies for the artists I know I like, look for individual albums that I know I want as well.
I'll have to set up a Deezer downloader at some point since I'm not in any private trackers and finding some stuff is a pain, at worst it means I'll go old-school and leave the computer downloading things overnight.
>>105567609Dead board because a majority of 4chan is now trannies who listen only to anime people music.
>>105567659>I'll have to set up a Deezer downloaderdamn you started at the wrong time. deezer cracked down hard on arls, and most services that downloaded lossless from it are down
not all that far fetched to say that we're in a rut (shallow but still) as a whole
soulseek and private trackers are always an option, but the former is tedious if you want to check if the files are actually lossless, while private trackers are the epitome of pride month clubs
>>105567691Any alternatives that still work for getting 16/44 FLACs? I don't really care about quality higher than that.
>>105567702>>105567691To clarify: do any Tidal, Qobuz, etc. downloaders work?
>>105567702>>105567713best luck i've found is qobuz, haven't tried tidal as of late but it should work, i'm just iffy about the whole mqa fiasco
soulseek is good as long as you choose the right accounts if you want to skip having to check if they're lossless. look at their profiles and shared files and if they have a decent library (my cutoff is around 0.5tb) then they should be good
>>105567473sometimes great, I really like Tindersticks live album The Bloomsbury Theatre 12.3.95, Portishead's Roseland NYC is great, Sam Cooke's Live at the Harlem Square Club, 1963 is one of his best, Lambchop's Live at Merge XX is good, David Bowie's Stage album is decent as well

๐
Totl anon here, got baited into buying the Questyle CMA15 last weekend. Just wanted to vent about this metal box:
>Pros
- Physical switch to toggle between amp and dac-only, this should make A/B-ing future amps easier.
- Built like a shit brickhouse
- Class A operation doesnโt get too hot (approx. 50ยฐC~)
- No audible noise-floor for IEMs. Iโve seen some reviews mention โpower supply humโ, well I donโt hear it.
- Current-driven amplification. Way more powerful than its specs (2W@32ohms) would suggest.
>Cons
- Too powerful, keeping the volume potentiometer on low naturally results in channel imbalance, but I canโt turn the volume up lest I blow my ears out. This issue is isolated to my Jomo Nautilus, so Iโve learnt to live with it.
- NOT powerful enough for the Duality/Modhouse Tungsten/Susvara. Bass on the Duality still sounds mildly pillowy. Long-term Iโm getting a better amp and relegating the Questyle to DAC duty.
- Gain switch: Why did Questyle put that shit at the bottom? Also, you canโt change the gain while the unit is switched on. If changing gain was easier I wouldnโt be seething over the first con.
- IIR filter: thereโs only 1 filter and you canโt change it. Because of this HQPlayer has a very minimal effect.
- No XLR input, only RCA.
>Measurements
https://www.l7audiolab.com/f/questyle-cma-fifteen/
>Sound quality
Largely uncolored. Though the leading edge in the treble is a tad harsh โ Iโm getting mild sibilance when I didnโt used to. Fortunately, separation is way better than on the DX340 โ some busy tracks sounded less congested on the Questyle. At least timbre isnโt dry and harsh like the Topping or I might actually kms from having bought this.
Looking to buy the Mass-kobo 485 or Zahl H1 next so I don't have to cope with the amp stage of the CMA15. Fuck actually I want a proper R2R DAC too.
>>105573105you just convinced me never to buy one of these glorified mp3 players, thanks.
>>105573105>I donโt hearRIP
>>105573105>$2000>shitty volume pot with channel imbalanceWhy the would you buy anything that doesn't have a relay attenuator some form of digital volume control at that price? Even $500 amps have that feature nowadays.
what 3.5mm jack to usb-c dongle should I buy? i have pixel 8 and i dont think every single one of them works? or should I just buy a cable?
>>105573280i hear about pixel incompatibility with dongles.

It sounds just like any typical chifi 1DD. Probably leaning to the better side because treble performance is acceptable. But given how bad stock cable and eartips are and the money you need to buy them, get Bnuuy instead.
