His story could easily be true. I knew of someone similar, basically exact same story. Came from an upper middle class family, big house in the burbs, had a college degree. He literally refused to get a job. I don't think he had ever worked a job. Instead, he would do that same thing, couch surf "vibing" making "music," living in the back of his pickup truck, raiding little caesers and grocery store dumpsters for food.
I remember the last time he came over to my house he had a bunch of pizzas and produce he told me he got from dumpster diving (gross). He hit me up recently and I didn't answer the phone because I know if I let him come over to my new place he'll never leave. One time I had to force him to leave because I asked and he said he had nowhere to go.
The guy was not disabled or anything. Perfectly intelligent, just absolutely couldn't stand the thought of having a stable job, wanted to explore constantly and have no responsibilities. This is the majority of homeless, and of course, my buddy would literally do any drugs he could get his hands on, and would do them from the time he woke up until sleep with 0 self restraint.
