You could feel that he announced it, had a ready-to-go vision of it (basically a more beautiful, HD version of the original game), then went "ah fuck it" for no reason and went balls-on-the-wall meta with it. It feels more like World of Goo 1.5 than anything and the best thing about it was the extra hard levels that actually challenged you a little. There's a ton of "yeah remember this one?" levels even as chapter endings. The ending is also complete shit and makes the whole thing feel like a waste of time.
The penultimate chapter basically has the whole gimmick of how World of Goo sequels would look like 400,000 years into the future where one is a golf game, the other is a point-and-click adventure and the third is a gravity manipulator. All three are executed like shit. The ending is a lone human adventurer landing on the planet of Goos, going "damn that's cool" and then going back to space, which is basically also a callback to 1 with how the world is yours when you have custom levels.
Also got reminded of Skelly, Zombie Slayer. Cool lil' thing as an arena 2D zombie killing game. Ton of SFX lifted from Doom but the feedback is pretty nice.
