I think Iris was meant to be a counter to N as they have many similarities/ direct opposites but they decided to drop it for whatever reason.
>both are wild children found in the wilderness with unknown parentage
>both can communicate with pokemon on some advanced level that other people can't (Iris can only communicate with dragon types though)

That 's about it but also given the nature of story and the titles being Black/White literally meant to invoke the saying of things not always being black or white it tracks that early on N was suppose to have an equal and opposite counter
