It's simple as that. Anyone can make the new thread so long as they follow the norm of the general. We just let the tripfag do it because he's good at photoshop and has those fancy thread logos. If you want to be the special snowflake "Ooh look at me I made the new thread!" so much at least put in the effort to do it properly.
