HG for sure, if you are under zero rush then you could wait to get him the entry grade Wing Gundam that is coming out, otherwise the HGs of any of the main Gundams are all good. Wing Zero still holds up great. Out of the ones I've built so far that you can easily get i think I enjoyed Deathscythe the most. They are releasing the upgraded versions of all the main Gundams as standard releases sooner or later so you can also snag those at some point. The Leo is super easy to build and is a great kit, same with the Maganac, if your bro is into grunts

Asking again but does anyone know the cutoff date of when they started making kits with articulated knee joints? It bothers me when the knee is connected to the calf and you bend the leg and it looks weird with a mono armor on the leg and exposed leg joint.

The wing HGs are 10 years old at this stage and don't look amazing out of the box. Since I doubt your friend wants to start touching up kits his first time around, I'd recommend the RG Wing Gundam (RG 35). Not to be confused with the RG Wing Gundam Zero, although that kit is ok too.

Hexa gear kits, they're actually really simple to put together despite having a lot of runners. The only pain is sanding the parts which take longer than normal

One thing I would slowly realize looking at the BB Senshi Musha Retsuden kits is that their slightly changed lore of the Seven Mushas make them parallel each of the samurai in Samurai 7 since the original Seven Mushas from the original trilogy take after the original Seven Samurai.

I got it like a week ago. I didn't paint it because the out of box looks are fantastic, so I didn't post it either. A little bit of cement and sanding on the rocket launcher is all the actual work it needed. Everything new to the F80 is flawless in construction.
It's insane how good the pigment density in modern plastics are. It just needs a satin clearcoat on it and it's done. I'm just giving the decals a few days to dry out so that some mr. super smooth doesn't fuck them up.
I also am going to do some spot details with metallics. Mostly just gun barrels and the tiny molded in verniers.
The whole F90 line is just fantastic. Shame about the price on a lot of them though. I tried the bootleg out but it's just horrible.

Satin is a bit more matte than semigloss. The mr. super smooth makes it look like you did paint without the need to milhouse the whole thing. It's weird that the mr. super smooth matte is so much less flat than the mr. super clear matte. Feels nicer in the hand too. It's good stuff.
Clearcoat also diffuses the light differently than bare plastic and makes the color more clean. It also hides flowmarks and shit and It'll lock in the panel lining and the decals.
The panel lining is done with thinned down acrylic primer and a fountain pen so it's not that tough on its own. The perk of it is that it's safer on bare plastic than tamiyas pissin hot enamel panel liner.

Yeah. It comes with some smaller 80 decals as well, despite there being no current use for them. I think they're to apply to mission packs.
The little triangles on the front skirt and knees are also decals.

I use spray cans. Mr.hobby seems to just call satin matte and you have to know which products are matte and which are satin.
I do own an airbrush and a ton of paints, spray cans are just way easier for clearcoating. They make it easy to get a nice even wet coat and are always mixed perfectly. Clearcoats seem to be a lot pickier about thinner ratios and dry times than paint so I just spend a bit more for ease of use.
This also isn't topcoated yet, just so you know.

Wing Gundam is coming along. Got my Tamiya Extra Thin Cement in earlier than expected and fixed my damaged part. Worked better than I thought tbqh. Finished the head, had some trouble with the eye sticker, I'm probably going to pop the head back apart and paint the eyes at some point.
