The real difference is that half those Overwatch ones rely on some boring backstory. The TF2 characters are all broad comedy archetypes, you don't need to know a single thing about the Soldier's "lore" to completely understand the character.

Anon, please stop writing as if you've been mentally buckbroken by /pol/ memes.

It's a divisive book, both when it first appeared and today as well. Basically it's a story about nature vs nurture and barbarity vs savagery. The story gets a bit complicated but it revolves around Heathcliff being an orphan who never fully fit into society, he's in love with Cathy who both loves him and partly rejects him for a more respectable man. Heathcliff runs off (probably to be a mercenary or something criminal maybe), then returns as an adult, which basically breaks Cathy's mind because she wants both Heathcliff and her respectable marriage. She becomes a hysterical wreck and Heathcliff becomes a scheming monster as he manipulates his way into taking over the home of his adopted family, and then the home of Cathy and her husband after they both die. He makes the lives of their various relatives a misery and has morbid dreams about Cathy's ghost. Eventually he dies and Cathy's daughter and nephew are the only ones left, but it ends on a hopeful note after all the tragedy.

Film adaptations just pick out Heathcliff and Cathy's romance and remove all the bad parts to make it a cliche'd love story, missing the entire point of the book. The two are meant to be unhealthily in love with each other, they're inseparable but in a destructive way, and half the book is about the fallout.
