This is true, and sometimes it's difficult to make morally good choices when you don't know the outcome.
But for a lot(and I mean a LOT) of people they go about life like Charlie's Inferno where they do surface level things that make them appear good but are unwilling to suffer or even inconvenience themselves for the sake of someone else and they expect to see those pearly gates after death which obviously isn't happening.
Being nice to people is one thing, but being GOOD means you're actually willing to lose things that matter because you care more about someone else. A billionaire can donate tens of thousands of dollars to charity but that doesn't make them a good person when their personal life isn't affected by their donation, they had nothing to lose in the first place.
