nta but as a referee, you job isn't just to enforce the rules and regulations of the game on the field, but also for anything that surrounds it. While rare, it is in the referee's jurisdiction to eject staff, coaches, fans, etc. that they find is becoming detrimental to the game or causing an unsafe environment to take place. Obviously the referee isn't throwing anyone out themselves, but what you'll usually see is that a player informs a ref about something off the field of play that's bothering the team whether that be some equipment issue, field/court issue, fan, etc. and if confirmed to actually be a problem the ref will get in contact with security or league staff to remove the individual or object from the area.
t. anon that used to be a referee (don't do it) and had to throw out people that were being fucking retards in the stands multiple times and even had to completely stop games on some occasions
