Honestly I doubt that the majority of the users would quit with this change. As a user of the site I don't really see how it would affect me. I'd have to register once and then I could just auto-login thereafter. I understand that our more paranoid or data-conscious users would be concerned, but honestly, we'd only be storing an e-mail, a username, and a password. It's no more than any other site stores and the actual posts would still be anonymous to the userbase.
