What's the remaining life expectancy?
The looming possibility of a WBD sale makes it hard to predict. But what we know is AEW's TV deal has an option year running to the end of 2028, and even if they don't get it, they'd only need to spend one year floating around aimlessly in limbo to reach the 10th anniversary of the company (January 1, 2029) before folding.
If they do get the option year, Dynamite will just barely get to outlast TNA Impact's run on Spike which is a milestone, I guess. In general, AEW would need to survive until at least mid-2031 to outlast Turner's WCW, which is unforeseeable.
If they're cooked by then, I can see Tony running vanity PPVs into 2030 just so he can say AEW ran shows in 3 different decades, but AEW surviving to 2031 as a real promotion seems unlikely. The Khans are mega-billionaires though, so anything can happen.

AEW's whole point was to force WWE to get good. After Roman stopped working the ratings into a seething shoot, and Triple H and TKO took command, there was no point in AEW's continued existence. It was a pressure group, and pretty much anyone besides the Yung Cucks and Tony Khan were keenly aware of this. Cody was also aware, hence the sledgehammer shot which worked to put publicity on HHH and on himself.

Why would people fight to "win" the #1 and #2 spot in a gauntlet match?

It’s interesting seeing AEW trying to garner attention by appealing to liberal platitudes, deliberately setting itself up in contrast to WWE and the clear right wing political nature to its presentation.

AEW is basically saying: If you’re a Democrat you watch AEW, if you’re Republican you watch WWE.

This kind of deliberate contrast is especially funny because their ratings have been tanking
