IIRC it was the other way around, curses were getting so strong Gojo was born as an answer to them. With Gojo dead we're now in the next build up period where curses are getting worse in a world of increasing conflict but with no Gojo-level prodigy to keep them in check. Unless we learn that Oldji is still out there rip and tearing through curses instead of sitting in a retirement home.
