i don't have an opinion on pathfinder since i have not played it, but anybody hating on bg3 for having no combat gameplay is a total muppet. bg3 is peak tacticool rpg.
the ways you can defeat enemies are only limited by your creativity. i just got past the gnoll group fight with rugan/kugan(?) on the 5th try, in part because he & his buddy kept dying. had to bring lae'zel & my character equipped with regular barrels to form a wall & stop the gnolls from advancing, while karlach spamthrows barrel bombs like it's the syrian civil war.
& that's just one of many possibilities. this game is the epitome of fun, which is what all games should strive to be.
