Anon, it's called a bain-marie or double boiler technique, how do you think people heated things before microwaves were invented?
Yes, now it's not as common (though in many ways it's better) but it's not some ancient mystical lore, people worldwide were doing it daily just ~30 years ago.
And yes if you want to microwave something quickly but don't want it to be dry, this tecnique fucks.
