I don't think it's that crazy a departure from modern day in a really weird way. This is a Penn Arms 40mm pump-action, rotating cylinder grenade launcher. We already have pump grenade launchers from rotating cylinders. Armsel Striker from MW2 was a revolver cylinder shotgun too. But to make the cylinder detachable opposed to reloading one by one?

On that note, one of the names for the Striker was the Protecta Bulldog so I assume it's the IRL inspiration.
