Anybody here do audio engineering shit with making and mixing the audio of music or sound effects?

Trying to figure out how to get my new setup to have guns in Infinite (and the older Halo games) sound right: I had to get rid of my old stuff and now a bunch of the effects I used to hear in say the AR gunfire isn't audible, and new parts of their audio effects I can hear I couldn't before, and I'm trying to figure out how I can get all parts of the audio effects to be audible and not drowned out with the right combination of speakers and equalizer software to adjust the weight of different frequencies

I have some experience making/editing audio stuff, but it's mostly amateurish and I use really cheap 10-dollar Sony earbuds, so I doubt I'd be able to help you find those lost HD frequencies since I wouldn't know what to look for on a fancier set of speakers/headset. You've probably already done this, but just to be sure, have you downloaded any/all special drivers from the manufacturer's website, and are you on PC(Windows)? Sometimes Windows Update will download what you need and other times you'll get the drivers/software on a cd but they might be out of date, so it would be better to check the manufacturer's website. If you're on Linux, you might have a bad time since audio isn't the biggest priority here, so even for someone with cheap hardware like me can tell how bad stuff sounds compared to on Windows. If you do have an equalizer, you'll just have to play back a particular sound and adjust the frequencies until it sounds right to you.

The laptop has a Nahmic equalizer built into Lenovo's gaming/prefomance utility thing, I've also been suggested stuff like equalizer APO, a additional GUI add on for it, FXsound, etc. I just really don't know enough about audio to know how to tweak the equalizer to do different things to hone in on the sort of audio I want

3 is probably the slowest. I play CE and 2 at different FOVs so not sure exactly so CE feels faster but 2's combat feels like there's more going on/more interesting so the pacing feels better even if it feels physically slower. Infinite feels the fastest, too fast, and that feeling feels worse as the auto-aim/aim-assist doesn't feel as tight either so it makes the controls feel sluggish (plus the input lag). But it's better than Reach. Reach feels slow and sluggish, despite having sprint, and the movement abilities feel very tedious and slow to activate. 4 feels surprisingly fast and snappy, better than Infinite, it's like the best of both worlds in terms of movement and controls, it's just a shame almost everything else about it is pretty bad.

This just confirms that Chief was alive and active when the Halo Ring was fired before. Given it sterilizes all sentient life that long ago, it would've taken several thousands or millions of years for life on the way to evolving into humanity into becoming humanity. And humans can't live for thousands of years but Guilty Spark's advance sensors shouldn't be wrong, and he had no dialogue whatsoever saying Chief should've long died of old age. What this indirectly revealed was that Chief is an ancient space alien who can live for over a million years or at least the length of time it'd take for a non-sentient life form to evolve into humanity.

It could've been so interesting a plot into Halo 2, on how Chief was found by the UNSC, or why he lacks memories, or any plotline that could've resulted from the knowledge that our protagonist has lived over a hundred times any human being can. Then Halo 2 had to pretend this line never happened and so did the rest of the franchise.

this is my first time playing halo 4, against my better judgment. is it just easy as fuck? i'm on heroic and it feels like normal at least compared to the real games. maybe even easy difficulty. aside from the dumbfuck ai, everything about the gameplay just feels very inconsequential in a weird way, i dunno how to explain.

The enemies feel a bit tanky (like grunts taking too long to kill with an AR), and there are some annoying sections where they throw too many enemies/vehicles at you, but overall you shouldn't have too much difficulty if you just play patiently. It's not so much the difficulty, but the tediousness of it can get to you sometimes so you end up trying to rush certain sections (especially with Prometheans) and end up dying from getting careless and then you might get frustrated and it will feel harder when it's not. Halo 3 is way easier but way more fun.

We already have real-life revolver shotguns. It's an oddball direction to choose but appearance-wise, the Bulldog looks just like a SGR-12 airsoft gun with a drum mag. Mixing it and needing some rotation system from the pump is a very weird decision but drum mags today tend to have feeding and reliability issues, then we have shotgun mags who in general are still a work in progress in reliability due to size of bullets needing to be pushed up into the gun. I assume the UNSC in 500 years couldn't get it right so they're trying more novel solutions, a bit a freaking weird choice.

We already have pump grenade launchers from rotating cylinders. Armsel Striker from MW2 was a revolver cylinder shotgun too. But to make the cylinder detachable opposed to reloading one by one?

That's halo in general, it's more like a 60s think tank's rejected ideas. It's a result of artists making an iconic design more than functional or practical designs. I would be complaining like mad if I were issued most Halo assault rifles even if they didn't have magic recoil compensators that eliminate all 7.62x51mm's recoil. The proportions, the size for a CQB weapon, the size of the flashlight, the list goes on. Their tactics are obsolete, their vehicles are hilariously inefficient, and their weapons wouldn't be out of place in the labs of a Cold War military think tank. People who've handled replicas often tell me that it can be best described as a bullpup that somehow manages to completely negate all the usual benefits of a bullpup: it is incredibly front-heavy and has a ridiculously short length of pull, to the point of being extremely uncomfortable to shoulder properly. That’s pretty much the opposite of what a bullpup rifle is supposed to be.

But the upside to how oversized Halo guns tend to be and their distinctive shape means far easier IDing on the ground, in a NPC ally's hands if you're about to trade, in an enemy in PvP, etc. It's all got its gameplay value where none of the physical discomfort that would come with using these would ever exist. Also, I always thought recoil and many oddball characteristics in Halo is gameplay things only because you're a heavily trained supersoldier in power armor. Gun recoils badly for you, a regular marine would never use them effectively enough to be standard issue.

Halo 2 is an 8/10, its the one with the most artistic merit out of the three and the one with the most personality, also dual wielding and the best story. Halo 1 is a 9/10, its the most perfect (the better done one, the one with less flaws) out of the three and was revolutionary at its time (controller with 2 sticks for a shooter, graphics, story, smooth and almost perfectly balanced gameplay). 3 i have yet to replay (played it for the first and last time 5 years ago) but i think its probably an 8 aswell. Reach is trash

I think 3 is fine from a gameplay perspective but there's so little story and unsatisfying characters arcs. I mean Cortana is only in the game for like...1 and half missions.

Halo 3 nerfed every weapon in the game besides power weapons and the needler (now a single wield weapon) and neutered dual wielding, it took the already shitty H2 magnum and cut its fire rate and magazine capacity in half. The shotgun now only carries 6 bullets and has to be pumped on every reload even if the clip isn't empty. The BR now shoots projectiles that drift slightly at a distance making it painful to use in the multiplayer when combined with the awful netcode that eats your bullets. The campaign is rushed and only has 9 levels, The Ark and Cortana are both terrible and the latter was obviously meant to be the second half of Floodgate but was repurposed because they didn't have time to make High Charity assets, Brutes have been turned into worse elites that don't restore their shields and are therefore the easiest major mob in the series. The good thing is that the vehicles are good in this game, unlike Reach where they flip around and get easily destroyed by DMR bullets. However you have to hope the enemy doesn't have an EMP or a plasma pistol overcharge.

The closest anyone has come to being a Halo killer was the original Red Faction. Combat and guns felt like Halo, had vehicles, but it set itself apart by having cool interactable and destructable environments. That geomod stuff is still impressive. Even the way glass shattered when you shot it was mesmerizingly cool (It didn't just suddenly transform into broken glass pieces that dropped, the glass breaking occurred radially outward from the location it was shot at).
