they're not as strong as the humans but they do a decent enough job, the whole deal with demons is strength in numbers, individually they're not great but together they can hang well enough after they're doing buffing/debuffing. magic in general is pretty bad though, which certainly hurts alot of demons combat wise

this makes me think you didn't play very far into the game, because this stops being true pretty quickly.

you're just bad at managing your MAG, you don't need your full party out when sweeping trash fights in dungeon crawls, you only pull everyone out for a big boss fight.
>the map sucks
yeah it's not great, if the automap in SMT2 PS1 is anything like SMT1 PS1 it fixes all of those issues, but unless you can read moon you're shit outta luck.
