I try not to get invested in politics but IMO this has blown up more because he was fairly important in the Republican Party's "system" (look up AmericaFest) and TPUSA's m.o. was generating viral clips from improvised "debates" with overly-emotional college students that function more like entertainment. South Park had a great parody of this (and I think Kirk liked it too):

The performance is improvised but it works as a template, you can do it on any college campus, and it also exploits attempted disruptions by turning them around into more content. Getting shot by a full-powered rifle cartridge is a different story though. My reaction was like "holy fuck that's a lot of blood" and then reminded of how few people are prepared for this kind of violence.
Politics can cause deaths but death doesn't care about anyone's particular politics. We also don't know why people kill public figures, but normies like predictable progression, it's why Taylor Swift is popular. Terrorism is like a sudden bang, everybody freaks out, the music stops making sense. I'd say to watch out for people trying to exploit it for their own benefit.
