i started teaching in 2007
schools were still normal then - white population in public school was at its peak because boomers had plenty of kids (millennials)
then boomers kids started graduating, and we were slowly getting gen X kids (zoomers), and thats when it all went wrong... boomers were hands-off as parents, and if they got bad news from the school, they actually handled it and the kid's behavior would change
gen X parents were the opposite - any notification of their child's poor behavior results in them doing nothing, potentially gaslighting, arguing, completely deflecting all responsibility and telling the school that they need to deal with it... many started suing schools for disciplining their child
the entire 2010s were nothing but removing discipline, removing obstacles to graduation, keeping kids in the classroom, lowering academic expectations, etc. schools became less and less white each year, more and more mexicans/mutts started flooding classrooms, and then COVID hit
COVID affirmed that the only thing that 95% of parents care about is the free daycare aspect of school... parents would constantly ask for extensions, re-takes, to the point that schools
and now we're starting to get gen alpha, which are kids of millennials, and absolutely none of them "parent", they're all friends with their child, they didn't read to their kids, and white students are nearly extinct
politicians have fucked this - white women aren't having kids due to feminism, schools are flooded with criminals because they'd rather have them in daycare than on the streets becoming teen mom, schools can't discipline children because judges have told them that they're racist for doing so
entire curriculum needs to go - kids are just using chatGPT to cheat on everything, very little taught has any application outside academia
