She's a doormat desperate to have as much of him as she can because she knows there are others who have deep ties to him, in Roxy's case before her for example - but Roxy has a different tie to him, and Eris also has a different tie, so she feels less threatened that they would supplant her and on some level can accept that their connection is different to hers.

But Banana is different to that.

Her problem with Banana is that the core of Sylphie's self-worth and self-identification is that she is Rudeus' childhood friend. But then there is Banana. Banana and Rudy share a connection with a world he was in before Sylphie, a world that they have a private language for, private jokes for, knowledge of, all things that she can never have from his REAL home town.

Banana, by existing, destroys everything about who Sylphie is. That's why she feels unfathomably jealous of and threatened by Banana.

Also that Rudy instantly recognised Banana at the school and spoke another language with her but still thought Fitz was a man for weeks/months probably didn't help. Sylphie's self-worth got dunked on hard in that arc.
