As gay as it is to say out loud you really do need to be attached to a character to want to see their story through to the end.
Like theres these youtube fags called vlogbrothers, and one was an author while the other was a general nerd who did other shit. At some point though that nerdy guy who never wrote before made a video announcing he was gonna write a book, and while I never picked it up he plainly stated his motivation for writing it and what he said stuck with me, and while that fag may answer why he wrote this book now with some artsy fag reason like politics or the world we live in today being his motivation or some stupid shit like that, his REAL MOTIVATION was, and Im paraphrasing here "I cant stop thinking about this girl."
No matter how silly your premise is, the genre you write in, the medium, whatever, if its eating away at you then thats the motivation you need to make your story.
I try to make it not personal too, when Im making my story Im not thinking about me, Im thinking about my own "girl" and how people need to see this shit.
To use an actual comic example, the fag who made those dark as fuck Clarissa comics. She was literally just meant to be a one off punchline character for some fucked up joke. But then the author revisted this character again... and again...and again all the way up til now when he still is trying to finish this girls story, even though again she was just supposed to be a joke character without an end top her story. You must let your cringe consume you bro, you gotta be the biggest fan of your characters and want to see how their story ends too.
