Oh, yeah. I updated it from time to time. It's a real, bear bones early alpha. It has Treasure Trove Cove from Banjo Kazooie as well as an original Level that is blocked out but not finished at all called "Mt. Energy". You can play it here:

Stop. Just stop. This "woe is me" is ruining you. Sonic is just Mario with momentum physics and running up walls. He even destroys squares for powerups. He gets a shield that allows him to take an extra hit, much like Mario's Mushroom. It's the same thing, "but with added features". But look at what happened, Sonic has become a beloved icon, with his games being remembered fondly by millions of people. Every single First person Shooter is just DOOM with added features. Who cares, my man?

Make your favorite game with added stuff. Or make two of your favorite games, but combine them into one. But make SOMETHING. Shit, I'm the biggest poser in the world if you view it all this way. I'm just mashing Sonic Adventure and Mario 64 together, pretty much verbatim. But I'm making something.

Be creative. If it's just a 99% copy of something else, it'll be YOUR engine, and even JUST that is creative.

I find them on different websites, like Spriter's Resource, or SketchFab, or stuff like that. Any place where people upload models, there are bound to be models from preexisting video games.
