The Aurora cemetery reportedly held the remains of the "Martian pilot." A headstone with an etched airship was said to mark the grave, though the stone disappeared in the 1970s.

Later efforts to exhume the grave were denied by cemetery authorities, but metal detectors did reportedly find anomalous readings at the site—until those too mysteriously vanished.

Some metal debris collected nearby in later years turned out to be pure aluminum, which was extremely rare and expensive in 1897, adding a layer of intrigue (though not proof).
