Yordles were always furry but Tristana wasn't a Yordle she was a megling. It was a goblins and gnomes situation where yordles were inventing gadgets and meglings used explosives.

They then retconned meglings out of existance and said female yordles are just blue girls and males are furry before the Tristana update gave her furry ears.
