BACK IN THE DAY nobody knew where or how anything was. it was a collective "figure it out" kinda arg. games nowadays are flooded with yellow paint, of course shit sucks when you got questie telling 5000 people all to go to the same place to farm the guy meanwhile 2005 nobody knew shit. oh i have to go from ungoro to winterspring to feralas to tanaris??? yeah let me just pull up one of the biggest open world maps to ever exist and uh.... yeah guess i just wont do this quest and farm zf with my friends with shit gear and goofy specs on teamspeak.
honest to god the closest thing i've seen to a wow launch was elden ring. EVERYONE was playing it and figuring it out all in real time. very fun. not an mmo but still online coop openworld arpg. very similar feeling. gonna be another 20 years before it happens again.
