I remember the Miko unlocking quest from Tree of Savior. One of the requirements was to interact with something that only pops up once every hour or so, and only for a couple seconds, and multiple people trying to interact fucks it up, so people formed a line. You learned VERY quickly who you don't ever want to play with while standing in that line.

It's kind of crazy how bad other players can bottleneck quests for you in WoW, especially in vanilla. There are just a ton of quests where you have to collect an item that has a half hour respawn for no reason or quests where you have to farm rare drops off only a couple of mob spawns. If a single other person is there they're just going to waste your time and they couldn't even help you if they wanted to. It's very anti social in design, it makes you dread seeing other people on the same quests as you.

I always thought eventually, especially when Garrosh was warchief, the non-aligned monster races would splitoff and form a third unaligned faction and that would be the aftermath of Catalclysm. The expansion was even named 'Mists of Pandaria', the Pandas were a PERFECT Spokesman faction for a third neutral faction made of all the monsters who were displaced over it, especially since you could hire them from a Tavern in WC3 as mercenaries. Get the bears, get pit lords, get naga, get Ogres, non-bronzespear trolls, get the deer-type dryads who aren't all-in on the Nelves plan to side with humans, put them all on one side that's just "Leave us alone in our woods" and everyone would have loved it and the other two factions could become miscolored elves all they wanted.

I'll not really understand why this is. Nightborne are just different enough from standard Night Elves they could be decent, but I think most of their leaders are basically less "changed" by the Nightwell and instead look like the original Highborne who are basically NE (the ones who didn't become Naga). Also as others have said, despite Nightborne being one of the neatest "Allied races" and their storyline and zone being the best (and one of the most tedious to actually finish though during Legion. To get Moose Highmountain Tauren all you needed to do was basically become revered in that zone, Nightborne meant a month of dailies and finishing a whole questline specific to it. Only the Void Elves and/or maybe the Lightforged Draenai were equally obnoxious as they took finishing the Argus zone dailies for a month and questlines etc.. which were the hardest and last added of the expansion).

Nightborne and Void Elves were sort of the excuse to let the other side get a NE or BE model; Nightborne being on the side of Horde is a little meh but lorewise is still doable as they can kinda commiserate with the Blood Elves as doing a similar thing, but given that mainline Alliance NE now welcome back arcane magic openly (I forget why. I left after Legion/start of BFA) its strange for them to not have joined their wayward kin except as a contrivance for NE models on Horde. Likewise, the whole Void Elves thing as opposed to just allowing High Elves but considering that over the past few expansions Void has been a big fucking deal so maybe it pays off.

For me in multiplayer games play as huge races like Tauren because its easier to take control of groups if your character model is literally bigger than everyone else, like real life. In solo RPGs though I like to play as halflings or other short races so I can self insert when they romance the taller races.

People wanted High Elves since the beginning of WoW, so its no surprise. Many other allied races however are just...meh and doubly so if youre not a lorefag. People who want to play an orc play a green one becaus that's the common portrayal; mostly brown orcs are not really a big thing unless you're into their lore. Mechagnomes are the worst - that should have been a customization option at best, or if they wanted to go that way then true robot looking gnomes that I recall from Ulduar and other Titan construct style dungeons should be the way to go.

Also I'm really fucking curious how the Zandalari (and for that manner, Tauren if I am informed accurately; maybe Highmountain too) qualify as Paladins, yet Night Elves don't. Blood Elves had a whole evolving story to justify it; at the start they were basically draining a weakened Naaru to get the Light to stave off their magic addition, then 'properly' accessed the Light etc. I think the Tauren justification was something having to do with the sun goddess who may be a form / related to/reflection of Elune.

Trolls got druid in cata.
Same time Tauren got paladins and priests. Lorewise they get light powers from the Sun God An'she who is the twin brother of Mu'sha(generally accepted by druis to be an alias of Elune), and al;so kinda an extension of balance druids doing both sun and moon stuff, and night elf priests being moon powered.

The Night Elf paladin thing is annoying because they do actually exist in lore and there's at least 1 NPC one, but Blizzard said they were still too rare to be a player choice.
