The original Excelsior model was used up until the Generations, where is was permanently changed with new parts on it for the Enterprise-B. When Voyager had the Excelsior show up in an episode, they could not use the Enterprise-B model because of the changes, so a new Excelsior had to be built, by Greg Jein. pic related.
